✅ Does This Course Satisfy the New York Enhanced Flood Requirement?
Yes. This course is designed to satisfy the 3-hour enhanced flood insurance instruction requirement for New York insurance licensees who sell flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.
New York has two separate flood-related CE components that may apply:
- The 1-hour flood insurance instruction requirement generally applies to licensees who are licensed to sell one or more property/casualty lines.
- The 3-hour enhanced flood insurance instruction requirement applies to licensees who sell flood insurance through the NFIP.
This course provides the 3-hour enhanced NFIP flood component. It does not replace the separate 1-hour basic flood insurance instruction requirement if that requirement also applies to you.
This course also counts as 3 CE credit hours toward the 15 total credits generally required for New York insurance license renewal or relicensing. It does not satisfy the full 15-hour requirement by itself, and it does not satisfy the separate Insurance Law, ethics/professionalism, or diversity/inclusion/elimination of bias requirements.
✅ New York Insurance Continuing Education Requirements
Most New York insurance producers must complete 15 credits of approved continuing education during each licensing period once the license has been in effect for more than two years.
For many licensees, the 15 credits must include:
- At least 1 hour of Insurance Law instruction
- At least 1 hour of ethics and professionalism instruction
- At least 1 hour of diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias instruction
- At least 1 hour of flood insurance instruction, if licensed to sell one or more lines of property/casualty insurance
- At least 3 hours of enhanced flood insurance instruction, if selling flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program
Self-study and online courses require a passing grade on a final exam to receive CE credit.
New York resident licensees must take courses from a New York DFS-approved provider organization. Continuing education must be completed before the renewal or relicensing application is submitted.
✅ When Do New York Insurance Licensees Renew?
New York insurance licenses generally renew every two years. Expiration dates vary by licensee, so producers should check their license record to confirm the exact expiration date.
Individual and TBA producer licenses are generally eligible for renewal within 180 days of the expiration date.
Because continuing education must be completed before submitting the renewal application, it is best to complete your CE early instead of waiting until the final days before expiration.
