✅ Arizona Continuing Education Requirements

Arizona sets continuing education by statute rather than by rule. Under A.R.S. § 20-2902, a resident major-line insurance producer whose license period began on or after January 1, 2014 must complete at least 48 credit hours of Arizona-approved continuing education during that license period, including at least six credit hours of ethics training. Arizona producer licenses expire quadrennially under A.R.S. § 20-289, on the last day of the month of the licensee's birthday, so the 48 hours are spread across a four-year term rather than a two-year one. Continuing education applies to Arizona residents holding a major line of authority; it is not required of business entities, bail bond agents or adjusters.

Excess credits do not carry forward to the next license period, and a licensee earns credit for a particular approved course only once during a single license period. Arizona's only statutory CE exemption covers producers continuously licensed in Arizona since January 1, 1995 who have never held a nonresident license in another state and have never been subject to a director's order. There is no professional designation exemption. A nonresident licensed in Arizona generally satisfies Arizona's requirement by complying with the home state's requirements.

✅ When Do Licensees Renew?

Arizona producer licenses run on a four-year cycle and expire on the last day of the month of your birthday. Because a first license period is set at not less than three and not more than four years from issuance, your first term may be shorter than four years. The requirement is tied to the license period, not to a calendar year, so confirm your own expiration date on your license record rather than assuming a four-year anniversary.

✅ How to Renew Your Arizona License

1. Look up your license record and confirm your exact expiration date, license class and lines of authority. Arizona issues licenses online only.
2. Complete all 48 approved credit hours, including at least 6 hours of ethics, before your expiration date. Arizona will not renew a license without proof the hours were completed.
3. Allow time for course completions to post. The provider reports rosters within 15 calendar days, and Arizona advises that renewal applications may take up to a month to process.
4. Check your CE transcript in SBS License Manager to confirm every course posted and the ethics hours are showing in the ethics category.
5. Renew online at NIPR.com, or file Form L-191 with DIFI by mail. Renewal can be started up to 90 days before expiration.
6. Pay the $120 renewal fee for each license class. The fee is non-refundable and is not prorated.
7. Save the receipt and confirm the license shows active status with an updated expiration date.

There is no grace period that lets you keep working. If DIFI has not received a complete renewal application and the full fee by the expiration date, the license expires at midnight and you must stop transacting insurance business. For one year after expiration you may still renew by filing a renewal application with the $120 fee plus a $100 late renewal fee. After that year, the filing is treated as a new original license application.
